Got a question? We have answers!
What are the dates for the Summer Reading Program? The Summer Reading Program starts on June 6, 2020 and ends on August 1, 2020. You can sign up at any time prior to July 25, 2020!
I completed my reading log. How do I get my free new book? Congratulations! A librarian will contact you to learn about your book title choice from the Prize List and to arrange for its delivery.
I won a prize! Now how do I get it? Hooray! A librarian will be in touch with you soon to arrange your prize delivery.
I can't find my school on the list? What do I do? If you attend a Merced County school, we would love to add your school to the database. Please submit the name of your school via "Ask a Question!" in the box to your right. If you attend a school outside Merced County, please use "Not Listed" or "Other".
How do I get a "Secret Code"? Some activities will provide you with 50 bonus points when you enter a code provided during virtual programs. Points are used to claim drawing tickets for weekly prizes. Visit the "Events" tab to learn more about the many fun activities scheduled!
What are the points for? The points earned from logging books, activities, and secret codes help you reach higher levels in the reading program. The more levels you reach, the more tickets you automatically have entered for weekly and grand prize drawings! See what you can win here.
I submitted a book review but I don't see it. Where did it go? Thanks for submitting a book review! A librarian will review it prior to publishing it for public view. Book reviews generally become public within two business days from submission.
My library card has fines over $2, can I participate? Yes, you can still sign up. You can access your digital library by clicking HERE, selecting an App and logging in with your library card and password. If your account is blocked, please call (209) 385-7484.
Is there an age limit for participation? No, not one is too young or too old to participate!
Do the books I read to my baby sister count for me, too? Hats off to you for reading to your sister! Yes, books read to your sister count towards your total and, you are also helping her earn a free new book!
Do the five books have to be library books? The books you choose to read do not have to be checked out from the library to count toward your prize.
Does my child need a library card to sign up? No, not for the online Summer Reading Program. Only one person in the family needs a library card and can make a family account. However, if you choose for each family member to have an account, then it is recommended that each family member register to get a library card.
Why do kids ages 0-5 need to read 20 instead of 5 books to earn a free new book? Most books geared toward this age group feature few words per page and rely on the richness of the illustrations to help tell the story. Five books read at normal speed without pausing to discuss illustrations would take as little as 1 minute.
What are “Family Accounts"? For the online program, this means that one member of your family will create an account using their name and library card number. The rest of the members in that family will be signed up under that one name/library card number. This just makes it easier to access all accounts under one login. You can also use a Family Account for a group of after school students, a club, or a daycare group.
What kind of books count? All kinds of books count toward your reading goals. If you prefer to listen to audiobooks that counts as well. Remember to check out our Digital Library where you can access both e-books and audio books.
Do the books I read have to be at my reading level? No. The rules state to "read five books" and do not specify that they must be at your reading level.
